Model Highlights

Base MINI Cooper Coupe and Roadster models are powered by a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine, making 121 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. It has Valvetronic technology for fully variable valve control, in order to maximize fuel economy and sharpen engine response. The Roadster can get to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 124 mph, yet it achieves EPA ratings of 27 mpg city, 35 highway. Cooper S Roadster and Coupe models step up to a TwinPower Turbo version of the 1.6L, making 184 hp and 177 lb-ft and it can get the Roadster to 141 mph, or to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds--and it's rated nearly as good for gas mileage, at 26/35 mpg. But the John Cooper Works models are the way to go for enthusiasts; they keep the same great fuel-efficiency ratings but can get a retuned engine making 181 hp but an all-important "Overboost" Mode pushes torque to 207 lb-ft. Across the lineup, you have a choice between a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic with Steptronic manual control and steering wheel paddle-shifters. The front-wheel-drive Coupe and Roadster come with a familiar MacPherson strut suspension with a multi-link rear axle, as well as speed-sensitive electric power steering and strong 4-wheel disc brakes. A stiffer sport suspension is optional and an Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) system helps get the power to the road in a more surefooted way out of corners and is included in John Cooper Works versions. John Cooper Works models also get more of a performance look, with a wide aerodynamic lower-body kit. Roadster models come with a motor-driven soft top that opens to a point just behind the seats, anchoring behind the roll bars, while a wind-protection insert helps reduce turbulence. An active spoiler in back extends at 50 mph (providing more downforce), then returns back to its original position below 37 mph. The MINI Cooper Roadster and Coupe models are 2-seaters and at less than 147 inches long, among the shortest, smallest models on U.S. roads. Yet their interiors are spacious enough for taller adults, and there's enough cargo space for weekend bags, including a flat trunk lid that more easily fits suitcases. Base Roadster and Coupe models include air conditioning, height-adjustable seats, a trip computer, and power mirrors. A long list of options includes Adaptive Headlights, HID headlamps, Park Distance Control, automatic climate control, heated seats, an automatic-dimming rearview mirror and an extensive array of accessories. The base sound system includes HD Radio, while an optional system has Harman Kardon sound and a USB port and the navigation system adds a 6.5-inch color display plus the MINI Connected suite, which enable apps and Internet-based services like Pandora Internet Radio, Facebook and Twitter. The MINI Coupe and Roadster offer an exceptionally wide range of color, trim and upholstery variations, including piped sport seats, a Chrome Line package and a total of five Color Lines, with an additional Chili Red option for the John Cooper Works. A "MINI Yours" range offers even edgier possibilities.
